WARREN, Ohio – Stoneridge, Inc. (NYSE: SRI) today announced it is leveraging its expertise in drivers’ hours of service (HOS) technology solutions to help North American fleet operators and drivers comply with the forthcoming Electronic Logging Device, or ELD, legislation.

ELDs are intended to significantly reduce paperwork for operators, support driver privacy, prevent harassment, enable compliance certification and resist tampering. They make tracking hours of service easier and more accurate while ultimately improving road safety.

As required by the new ELD legislation published on December 16, 2015, fleets still using paper logs today will need to have an approved ELD installed in the vehicle by December 2017. For those having recently installed an electronic on-board recorder or automatic on-board recording device, the timescale extends to December 2019. Contrary to these latter devices, the ELD will synchronize with a truck’s engine to capture power status, motion status, miles driven and engine hours – keeping a comprehensive record of driving time to ensure compliance with the law.

Stoneridge is a leading global provider of fleet compliance hardware and software solutions to support both the competitive and regulatory requirements of fleet customers. With over four decades of experience in tachograph design and manufacturing, the Company’s Electronics division is a market leader in digital tachographs in Europe, and the Company’s PST Electronics division is a leader in the Brazilian market for fleet tracking and management products.

In North America, Stoneridge enters the ELD market with a full system offering that is simple for operators to install, easy for drivers to use and an excellent value proposition. It allows operators to stay compliant while saving time and money, reducing paperwork and gaining more accurate HOS records so that more time can be focused on effectively and efficiently dispatching goods.

For operators looking for a more comprehensive solution, Stoneridge also plans to offer a cloud-based data storage and analysis system giving fleet managers real-time access to driver and vehicle data, combined with reporting functionality.

Stuart Adams, currently Global Product Manager – Aftermarket at Stoneridge Electronics, is to head up the new North American division focusing on ELDs and driver safety. With 10 years of experience at Stoneridge, covering a range of support, legislative and technical roles, Adams will bring an abundance of knowledge and experience in the compliance arena to the new division.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to work closely with fleet operators across North America to help make the move to ELDs as easy as possible for them,” Adams said. “We understand the concerns in the industry regarding ELDs, but we want to reassure fleet operators, owner-operators and drivers that the change does not have to be a daunting one. With our legislative expertise, Stoneridge aims to help make the ELD introduction as seamless as possible for fleets and drivers.”

Stoneridge also is looking for distribution partners to ensure that a high-quality sales and service network for ELD solutions is available to the transportation industry.
